In 2017, Creative.Life.Support partnered with the 412 Youth Zone, a one-stop center for young people ages 16-23 that are transitioning out of the foster care system and are eligible for independent living services. The Zone is designed for youth to gain stability, build positive relationships, learn life skills, meet basic needs, foster creative expression, and be guided on the right path towards a brighter future. This partnership comprised of Creative.Life.Support assisting the 412 Youth Zone in constructing and staffing a recording studio. Additionally, we developed a curriculum around three topic areas:
- Artist Creative Development – This topic area focuses on the artistry of writing and creating music. Starting with songwriting and pre-production, it will also encompass basic beat production and musicianship.
- Artist Career Professional Development – This topic area focuses on music career preparation, assisting students with developing their goals and taking advantage of the many resources that are available to emerging artists.
- Professional Development – This topic area focuses on students intrigued with audio engineering and production, offering more advanced training in studio operations and various software platforms.
Additionally, all interested youth undergo an orientation program where they learn the fundamentals and etiquette of working in a recording studio. This program includes a basic overview of the studio environment, proper gear usage, and safety. After completing orientation, youth have the opportunity to book studio time for their personal use to create original music.
